#30 Filming Day Two

Finally,

The 2-minute film intro filming has finally been completed, and that took so much longer than expected. With all the delays, I managed to get here, (although this is published on March 13th), March 6th, about 3 days later than my desired deadline. Filming for this portion of the intro occurred over two days, because I chose to do it late at night, and because of that, my family was sleeping. (aka my cameraman was on his break)

What was done?

Obviously, what was done was the second half of my film intro, but specifically captured the elements of a drama. I used low-key lighting and several different camera angles to capture what the girl was feeling a year later from when her boyfriend left.

The second half’s main premise was to capture the feeling of loneliness, and due to that,  the girl is clearly unraveled. It begins with the girl (myself) looking at two polaroids [seen below], from valentines day the year prior. This shot is a point-of- view shot, so the audience understands the importance of these photos, not only to her but to the story.

Furthermore, the footage contains the girl on her bed, wrapped in her blanket hoodie, looking at the pictures, looking at the ceiling, etc. in distress. Her actions are representative of someone who is obsessed with their significant other (unhealthy obsession in fact), and of someone wo is grieving. Although her boyfriend may not be dead, when he left for college, she lost a piece of herself, or “a part of her died”. [ss and small snippets of how it visually looks]

Moreover, in the film intro, the girl is seen trying to recover, or atleast get her mind off of her circumstances. Here is where I took inspiration from one of my past assignments in class, where we were tasked in creating a video that contained various forms of editing, so we may get an understanding of how we will put together our film intro. In this assignment, I created a storyline of a girl coming home from school, and doing her daily routine of putting her things down, turning on her music, and watering her plants. Flash forward to now, in this film intro, the girl finds comfort in music, so she puts some on to try and get her mind off the heartbreak. As she is getting up, trying to fix herself, the camera pans up ( aka tilt), to the calendar in her room (that I took from my kitchen because I do not have an actual calendar in my room), focused on the 14th of February circled, and emphasized, revealing the time period which this is being taken, and the reason for her heartbreak.

How did I do it?

Since I was missing one crew member, I had to rely on several objects around my room to hold up my phone, such as books, a candle, body lotion, anything around my room that can work basically. It may have looked funny from the outside, but it helped tremendously (a little more than my impatient camera man really).

For the lighting component, to capture the low-key lighting, thankfully I already had these warm fairy lights (Seen below) and my makeup light was also used in scenes that needed more light (or was in a darker filming area) –also seen below. It definitely took a lot of refilming to ensure the lighting was correct, and the subject (myself)
