What is “the industry”?
The industry as we know it, is Hollywood of course. It is an industry with fame, cameras, red carpets, but also with major controversy. Around the world, the film industry is loved but it is also a bit dangerous. Not just physically but can be dangerous to one’s work. People in this industry who have extreme power can make you a star or break you.
Industry is how and why media texts are made, sold, and bought. The industry almost dictates what sells or what becomes popular. It is the process of making, selling/giving, and buying by organizations, groups, individuals, around the world. In the industry, data and trends are studied, it has a role in economic benefits, including commercial and non-profit public funding, when it comes to studying the growth and development of the products from the media industry. The industry also explores how media associations keep up with assortments of crowds locally, broadly and worldwide, including advertising.

How does the industry affect media texts?
Primarily, with the new developments in technology, there has been a rise in AI, specifically AI generated media texts, that blur the line between reality and fiction, between what is real and fake. It honestly takes away all of the hard work done by film makers, and if the industry introduces new technology, it paves the way for AI to come in and alter the meaning/view on media texts. New technologies can be beneficial to a film/tv show’s production, but too much may take away from a film’s representation factor.
Furthermore, influence is big in industry, with the rise of social media, there has been more of an appeal towards advertisements on those apps specifically to the wants of Generation Z, which have been a link to decrease in attention span. So, marketing on social media is good to reach many people in a short period of time, but those ads must be short to get the message across –feeding the shortening attention span, which actually hurts the film industry because films are knowingly LONG. I don’t know, this might be a “correlation does not equal causation” situation but it's suspicious.

What competition will I encounter? (if the film was actually made…)
In the industry, the romantic films sector is very popular, movies like The Titanic, Anora, It Ends with Us, and Ten Things I Hate About You, are classics, and are examples of what type of competition my film will encounter.
Although, my genre of dramatic romance aka rom dram (trademark…just kidding), is less mainstream compared to those of the romantic comedy genre or the hallmark channel genre, so there is a bit of leverage when it comes to competition in this industry, because there are fewer known ones, giving my film a bit of a nudge. There has been a noticeable trend in dramatic movies recently, especially after the pandemic –it seems like everyone felt as if they had some feelings to let out– so not only would I be competing with dramatic romance films, but maybe a dramatic comedy or dramatic historical fiction.
I'm going to start including my schedule in every blog so you can see in real time what I get done (and don’t get done…)
