For my film intro…
I have a layout as to how I want the film intro to play out. Normally a storyboard consists of drawings, but I chose to write everything down in a google doc and get an idea of filming.
As I was taking my break…
Legitimately, as I am on break at work, [I am not lying, look below for photo evidence] eating my delicious, cheap, Chinese meal, I begin to write out the logistics for this intro. To make it easy, I have split them into even seconds, 1 minute and 1 minute. This simplicity is to reflect the two different periods of a person’s life, and also how it can change almost instantly.
~ me cooking up a storm with this layout…
So, for the first minute, the couple is seen together on a bench outside, with high key lighting. The several shots are to picture their last moments together before the boyfriend has to move. The sound will be mixed with diegetic and no-diegetic sound, with dialogue, low-key background music but also a voiceover included for different shots. This would take place on valentines day, although a day of love, it could also represent heartbreak, very much so.
2 Minutes ~ total
1st minute [aka 60 seconds] ~ high key lighting, a tad more saturation.
Black screen (voiceover)
Wide shot: on couple sitting on bench looking at each other (talking) ~
Two shot: from the back of the couple (talking)
Extreme close up: on the couple’s hand intertwined (voiceover)
Two shot: of the couple, still holding hands, comfortable position (voiceover)
Two shot: from the back of the couple (voiceover)
Wide shot: couple talking “let’s take a picture one last time..something like that” (talking)
POV shot: couple holding the phone as if they are taking the picture from that phone. (voiceover)
This is where the major transition happens from light to dark, a classic binary opposition to represent this love story. It will take some time to edit, but I think it will be worth it. After the flash , which also can represent a flash of memories (like before you pass away, but here the girl did not die but she did loose a piece of herself, basically, and she grieves over it. )
~ Camera Flash transition ~
For the second minute, the girl is seen all by herself, a significant change is the lighting, her demeanor, and her clothing. The girl holding the picture, and the messines of her room to represent the move of her boyfriend is consuming her (basically shifting her entire life). The several shots of angles are peculiar to show how she is in an unusual spot in her life right now, it is not easy to live without the one who became a part of your routine. When the girl looks at the calendar, noticing that it is Valentine's day, and the title pops up, it is ironic because it is clearly not a great Valentine's day for her.
2nd minute [aka 60 seconds] ~ low key lighting
OTS: girl holding the same picture in hand, throws picture
Mid shot: girl on computer, trying to do work, falls back
Overhead angle: falls back on bed, gets on phone, scrolls on phone
Extreme close up on certain things around the room (showing how life has changed afterwards)
Extreme close up: on phone, missed calls, not returning texts, looking at pictures of the two together
Mid shot of girl looking at calendar (says Valentine's day with the date circled)
Wide shot w/ title over the screen; w/ a low-key boom sound: girl puts blanket overhead
